Hawaiʻi Public Radio's Operations Manager, Krystal Spear is a familiar voice on HPR-2. The announcer of our weekly shows grew up playing oboe and English horn in school band and with the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony. Spear highlights some of her favorite music, reminding us that music never leaves us, and that "Band Geek" is an acceptable label.

Krystal Spear

Born and raised on Oʻahu, Krystal found a passion for media production through scriptwriting and broadcast journalism opportunities in school. She completed her bachelor's degree in Communication at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in 2023 and has worked in the Operations team at Hawai‘i Public Radio since August 2022. In the future, she hopes to further the fields of public and educational media here in Hawai‘i.
