Fewer babies are being born in Hawaii than at any time in the past 10 years. At the same time, more people are leaving the state than moving here.

The latest data show that number of babies are being born in Hawaii has been declining for a decade. That follows a national trend of falling birthrates.

Hawai‘i’s population has declined for two years in a row. According to Census figures released late last month, that’s mostly because of people moving to other states. But when it comes to other population centers in the Asia Pacific, one is likely to pass a milestone later this year.
