:04—Frederick Delius (1862-1934): Double Concerto, last move., 1915, Tasmin Little, violin; Paul Watkins, cello; Andrew Davis, BBC Symphony [Chandos 5094].

:08—Alan Hovhaness (1911-2000): Guitar Concerto No. 2, 1985, fourth move., Javier Calderon w/Stewart Robertson, Scottish National Orchestra [Naxos 559336].

:13—Paul Creston (1906-1985): Trombone Concerto, middle move., 1947, Christian Lindberg, trombone w/James DePreist, Malmo Symphony[BIS 628].

:17—Frank Martin (1890-1974): Harpsichord Concerto, first move., 1952, Rudolph Scheidegger, harpsichord w/Jac van Steen, Winterthur Music Collegium [Dabringhaus und Grimm 901 1539]. Written on the Dutch coast and inspired by North Sea waves.

:26—Toshiro Mayuzumi (1929-1997): Concerto for Xylophone, finale, 1965, Greg Giannascoli, xylophone; Jae Hwang, piano [World Music Marimba 1077].

:30—Ralph Vaughan Williams: Oboe Concerto, Maurice Bourgue, oboe w/William Boughton, English String Orchestra [Nimbus 5019].

:47—Carl Reinecke (1824-1910): Flute Concerto in D, finale, Aurele Nicolet, flute w/Kurt Masur, Gewandhau Leipzig [Philips 412 728]. Nicolet, Swiss, died in January. Masur died in December. Reinecke, a student of Mendelssohn, led the Gewandhaus 1860-1895.

:55—Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799): Bass Concerto No. 2, middle move., Chi-Chi Nwanoku, bass w/Paul Goodwin, Swedish Chamber Orchestra [Hyperion 67179].

:04—William Walton (1902-1983): Viola Concerto, middle move., 1929, Nigel Kennedy, viola w/Andre Previn, Royal Philharmonic [EMI 49628]. Hindemith played the premiere.

:09—Jean Francaix (1912-1997): “The Flower Hours,” for oboe and orchestra, first move., Lajos Lencses, oboe w/Uri Segal, Stuttgart Radio Symphony [CPO 999 779].

:12—Howard Hanson (1896-1981): Organ Concerto, 1926, Joseph Jackson, organ, Daniel Spaulding, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra [Naxos 559251].

:44—Johann Hummel (1778-1837): Mandolin Concerto, 1799, Alison Stephens, mandolin w/Howard Shelley, London Mozart Players [Chandos 9925]. Some may be surprised that the lowly mandolin was considered fit for the concert hall in 1799, and Hummel sounds a bit modern for that period.

:46—Howard Hanson (1896-1981): Serenade for Flute, Harp & Strings, 1945, Andrew Bolotowsky, flute; Jcqueline Pollauf, harp; Daniel Spaulding, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra [Naxos 559251].

:52—Francis Poulenc (1899-1963): Double Piano Concerto, finale, 1932, Joshua Pierce and Dorothy Jonas, pianos w/David Amos, Polish Radio Symphony [Albany 112].

:58—Reinhold Gliere (1875-1956): Concerto for Coloratura Soprano, second move., excerpt, Eilen Hulse, soprano w/Richard Hickox, City of London Sinfonia [Chandos 9094].
