Governor Signs Early Childhood State Plan

Wayne Yoshioka

It’s shaping up to be the year of the Keiki or Child at the State Capitol.

Governor David Ige signed the Hawai’i Early Childhood State Plan today.  Co-signers included the University of Hawai’i, Departments of Education, Health and Human Services.  The Governor said the plan involved hundreds of community stakeholders and organizations who will be involved in implementing the private-public effort.

“All children in Hawai’i should have the best possible foundation for a successful life and future.  The plan includes strategies and priorities that both provide inspiration and structure to our efforts over the next several years.  This is a 5-year plan that covers pre-natal, to birth through age 8.  The plan sets forth the foundation for a state-wide system that considers our children’s overall well being, safety, family partnerships, early care and learning.  And, as you maybe aware, state was awarded a 1-million dollar grant – from the federal government – which will help take this plan to the next stage of implementation.”
