Maui Electric Company is making adjustments to make up for power that will be lost with the closure of sugar cane production.
Hawai‘i Commercial and Sugar Company will no longer provide additional electricity that was generated at its Pu‘un?n? mill. The partnership provided 4 megawatts of scheduled power and an additional 16 megawatts of immediate emergency power. MECO spokeswoman Shayna Decker says the utility has been working with HC&S since the closure was announced in January.
Maui Electric Company has also reactivated two generators at its Kahului power plant to meet customer energy demand. HC&S has announced its final harvest will wrap up December 12th.
