Hawai‘i Opera Theatre Launches a Season Filled with Passion

Hawaii Opera Theater
Hawaii Opera Theater

The Hawai‘i Opera Theater’s 2016-2017 season is taking a different look at a classic art form.

The season begins and ends with traditional operas… starting with Puccini’s La Bohéme, and finishing with Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman.  In between will be an operatic version of Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire.  That’s followed by a 90 minute modern opera entitled Three Decembers written by Jake Heggie, which will also be taken to Maui, Hawai‘i Island and Kaua‘i. HOT General Director Simon Crookall chats about the upcoming season.

Single tickets for Hawai‘i Opera Theater’s upcoming season go on sale September 1st.  More information can be found at Hawaiiopera.org.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
