One of O?ahu’s last new communities is taking shape on the Ewa plains.
It’s been 13 years since D.R. Horton-Schuler Homes acquired 1,500 acres of Ewa land for $71 million. It’s been three years since construction began. Since Hoopili delivered its first home in July 2017, it has grown to 500 homes, one park, and three small business operating out of live-work condominiums.
These are just the first steps for the master-planned community, designed to add 11,750 homes when the project is complete. According to Bob Bruhl, president of D.R. Horton-Schuler Homes, the pace of development will accelerate in 2019. Work begins this month on the project’s first greenfield transit-oriented development, plus more commercial condominiums and possibly a new facility for The Queen’s Medical Center.
Hoopili is now literally on the map, as in Google maps, which has finally placed a few of the development’s first streets in its online maps. Bus service into these new neighborhoods began six months ago.
Many of Hoopili’s residents are first-time homebuyers and 70 percent of them are from other parts of West Oahu.
