The Hawaii County Civil Defense did an overflight of the active lava flow near Pahoa Village earlier today and reports they are still monitoring three active breakouts. The nearest residence to active lava is still 400 to 500 yards away. The lava in the transfer station has not reached any structures, but is pooling in the circular driveway below grade where the dumpsters used to be placed. Burning asphalt has created moderate to heavy smoke, but it is generally not blowing around any populated areas. Civil Defense has asked Department of Health to monitor the air quality. Two of the lava breakouts are only burning vegetation with which they have contact. One lava breakout is near Apa'a Street and may approach a wooden Hawaiian Electric Power Pole. Hawaii County Fire will be applying foam and water to the protective barrier around the pole today to provide additional protection. The flow front remains stalled and 480 feet from Pahoa Village Road.
