Bytemarks Cafe is a half-hour radio magazine that showcases the innovation and creativity in Hawaii's tech community. Hosted by Burt Lum, the program's purpose is to raise awareness of the tech economy and to engage the listener in the discussion. Bytemarks Cafe will leverage the Internet and social media technologies to extend the conversation well beyond the 30-minute time slot with the intent of building and nurturing this vibrant and vital community in Hawaii.

  • Today we'll learn about a recent award by the US Treasury to help build a new interisland fiber network. We'll find out what this means for Hawaii's Internet service and how this positions Hawaii for the future.
  • Today we'll catch up with Blue Startups as they near their 10th anniversary. We'll find out about their latest cohort of companies, East Meets West, and what they have planned for 2024.
  • Today we'll find out about a new project from the Pacific International Center for High Tech Research. The project is called J-StarX and we'll learn how 5 Japanese entrepreneurs are taking on the challenge to break into the US market.
  • Today we'll catch up with education non-profit HawaiiKidsCAN. We'll find out about their latest projects including Hawaii Tutoring and digital equity in education.
  • Today on Bytemarks Cafe, we’ll talk to the president of the Pacific Telecommunications Council. We’ll find out about their latest projects including the annual Pacific Telecommunications Conference and new technologies connecting us to the global internet.
  • Today we'll catch up with a couple of local companies to learn how they are helping climate and environmental mitigation. We'll hear from Maui Nui Venison and Hohonu and learn how they address climate resilience.
  • Next time on Bytemarks Cafe, it's that time once again to convene our annual roundtable to review some of the best tech available this holiday season. From 3D printers to the latest smart phones, we'll share our picks and ask our gadget geeks to help fill out your gift list.
