Helping Hand - August 10, 2018 complete interview with Hawaii Island Humane Society

This week on Helping Hand HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence starts two weeks of focus on ways to help people assisting animals of Hawaii County affected by the latest volcanic eruption. On the front lines of trying to help is the Hawaii Island Humane Society, with services like shelter for homeless, stray, injured, lost and abandoned animals, among many other programs and services. It is humbling to note nearly 13,000 animals come through their doors every year, many infirm, ill-treated, injured, too young or elderly. Some have never known the security of a home, while others have lost the only home they've ever known. Dave is joined by Hawaii Island Humane Society Executive Assistant and Purchasing Officer Patrick Thompson.

Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR1 stations statewide and archived online here. Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand puts the spotlight organizations, events and topics that offer assistance to people with disabilities and others among the most vulnerable.
