Hawaii Public Radio Fall Pledge Drive
We’re looking forward to seeing you!
Campaign Dates Wednesday, October 12 through Friday, October 21.
Theme: Civility, Complexity, Creativity
What is HPR?
- A 501(c)3 non-profit with 2 distinct programming services and 14 broadcast installations serving a state-wide listening audience of over 196,500 weekly.
- Debt-free
- Absolutely independent – locally-owned and operated. We are member supported, and beholden to our community of listeners.
- The local community donates 94% of the funds required to operate the HPR network. Gifts from individuals and families make up the largest share.
- We put the largest share of station resources – 74% of all revenues – into content and content delivery systems. That’s the programming we buy or make ourselves plus the broadcast facilities and infrastructure that makes it possible for you to hear it.
- Twice a year we go on air to ask our listeners to help pay for it. Pledge drives are part of the public radio business model. The on-air goal for the Fall Pledge Drive is $936,000.
- As soon as we reach our goal, we go back to regular programming.
About being on the air:
You will be on-air with one or more of HPR’s program hosts and often, another community guest. We interrupt regular programming for 2 or 3 “pitch breaks” per hour, and each break is typically 6 to 10 minutes in length.
When the pledge break begins, the HPR host will:
- Welcome the audience, explain what’s going on, ask for support, give the phone#
- Introduce you and others at the table.
- Come prepared to talk about why you listen to and enjoy HPR, why you’re a member, why your company or organization is a partner or is volunteering today. If you have a challenge gift, you’ll be asked to announce it.
- Please tune in for the drive to familiarize yourself prior to joining us.
More ways you can help:
- Encourage your friends to call in and pledge while you’re on the air – the pledge phone# are 944-8800 (HPR-1 88.1 FM KHPR Upstairs) or 941-3689 (HPR-2 89.3 FM KIPO Downstairs).
- Make your own personal gift of support.
