Celebrating the Summer Solstice with a collection of fun summertime favorites and a few new discoveries.

It's not quite summertime (the season technically starts on June 21st and runs till September). But the weather has been nice and it seems fitting to roll out some early summertime music. So this session of Bridging the Gap is going to be a sunny swirl of psychedelic rock, surf, bossa and other lightweight fun.

Summer months are the busiest time of the year for lifeguards—in Hawai‘i and across the country. Summer vacation and hot weather pack beaches and pools in many locations. But in one Asian city, the crowds of summer are bringing trouble when it comes to lifeguards. HPR’s Bill Dorman explains in today’s Asia Minute.

Summer is a time when rigid schedules loosen up, making room for new experiences.  Honolulu’s theater community has some tempting offerings for all ages, comedies, musicals and life enriching dramas.  HPR’s Noe Tanigawa visited two of Honolulu’s smallest venues for this report.

 After summer,  what can you do if you've had a little too much fun in the sun?  Aesthetician Dawn Sunada and Dorothy Maurice, a physician’s assistant at Kaiser Permanente will be in the studio to talk about post summer skin care, including lasers, lotions, peels, and prevention.

Summer is just around the corner and thousands of parents across the state have been making plans to keep their children busy. UH manoa is offering new programs for high schoolers and the state and counties are continuing their popular options. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.
