The Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra is launching a sparkling new season this Saturday.  Solid classics, talented soloists, and intriguing programs are all part of the new mix, along with a fun loving pops season and performances across the state.   HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.

The Hawai‘i Symphony’s new season opens this Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27th, at the NBC Concert Hall.

Find out more about the "Taste of Symphony" concert this Wednesday, 9/23.

Tonight's show will blend upbeat funky Brass - into Soul, Bossa, New Orleans soul, and some flaming tubas!

Tonight's show is a mellow run through some global Downtempo with a little anti-folk in between.

Tonight's show will feature Latin treasures taken from the Atlantic rim mixed into various dark downtempo selections.

Note: This show was accidently aired twice... once on the 8th, and again on the 15th.  My apologies, but I hoped you enjoyed it. The 15th's show can be found HERE.

Tonight's show will focus on devotional music, from American Gospel, to Pakistani Qawwali.

Tonight's show, really has no theme or playlist... But I did want to play a few new tracks off the new Quantic LP, A New Constellation... Other than that, we're just going with the flow.

Tonight's show will balance Downtempo with a little contemporary Jazz while throwing a few nods to emerging global textures.

I have a few shows coming up where I'm plying vinyl... So tonight's show is primarily coming of my ever growing collection of vinyl records, a few from the original 7" singles. So the sound may be a little scratchy, but hey... its wax!

What began as a fledgling dream of musical summers in the cooler climes of Waimea, Hawai‘i, is now becoming a sturdy community asset.  The Hawai‘i Performing Arts Festival welcomes over 70 students this year, and is in the midst of 30 public performances, many of them free.  HPR’s Noe Tanigawa offers this look at an exciting performance coming soon to Honolulu.

Tonight's show is going to be strictly guitar driven. Weaving all over the place country to country.

Tonights show is going to be an experiment in selection. I'm not going to be following the traditional order of Bossa, then Latin, then Downtempo, then Jazz...instead just flying just on feeling and musical instinct alone so the music flows better. Hope you enjoy it.

Celebrating the Sounds and Songs of Hokulea

Hōkūle‘a has returned to the ocean, as it celebrates 40 years of sailing. Over the decades, artists and musicians have been inspired by the traditional Hawaiian voyaging canoe. As part of our ongoing series, Hōkūle‘a: Voyage of Aloha, HPR’s Molly Solomon checked in with master navigator Bruce Blankenfeld to share songs of Hōkūle‘a.

Hōkūle‘a will stay in Auckland, New Zealand for the next month, before she departs for Australia in April, leaving the Pacific Ocean for the first time.

Sticking to slightly longer songs this evening, but still going all over the place.
