The new COVID-19 cases totaled 97 statewide today, less than the triple digit counts seen frequently in recent days but still a threat to further easing of restrictions, particularly on Oahu. There were no additional deaths, with the state toll standing at 222.

With today's counts, the state Department of Health reported Hawaii cases reached 16,302 since the pandemic began.

A judge has imposed a $260 fine on one of three fisherman in Hawaii who was accused of violating the state's ban on aquarium fishing and recovered an illegal catch worth more than $37,000 in February, court officials said.

KAILUA-KONA — A Hawaii County attorney told an ethics panel he would not face conflicts by prosecuting cases arising from demonstrations against the building of a Mauna Kea telescope.
