mellow

Tons of new music on display tonight, and for the most part it'll be laidback, mellow tracks featuring world, indie, alternative and some experimental studd along the way. Kick your feet up for this one.

This past Saturday, the last day of Hawaiian Language Month, I was asked to DJ an event put on by Mana Studios + Purple Maiʻa called "ʻŌlelo Jam." Mana Studios created a program called "ʻŌlelo Flix" where the public can translate the subtitles of Netflix movies into Hawaiian via a Chrome extension. They also taught keiki how to code in Hawaiian as part of their "Code Haumana" program.

Starting here, and flowing with it til we get there. That's how tonight's show is gonna go.

Mellow, soulful and lowkey tracks tonight on Bridging the Gap -  featuring soul, indie, and a few world selections tucked away throughout the evening.

After taking a short break from our HPR + HIFF collaboration shows, we're back at it tonight with episode 4 featuring selections by local filmmaker, Bradley Tangonan. I was lucky enough to meet Brad at a recent media maker's summit, where he asked an insightful question at a rather mismatched panel (in my opinion) on place-based storytelling.

There are a few people in this world that I call by their Instagram handles and Jahchong is one of them. He's also the featured guest selector on tonight's 3rd installment of my HPR + HIFF collaboration.

Justyn Ah Chong is an award-winning Native Hawaiian filmmaker from Oʻahu. An alum of USC's School of Cinematic Arts, he filmed and edited a variety of projects at ʻŌiwiTV such as the award winning feature documentary "Mele Murals."

The Hawaiʻi Internation Film Festival (HIFF) opened last week, and I was curious as to what some of my favorite local film makers are listening to. So tonight is episode 1 of my HPR + HIFF collab. The idea is to feature the music that some of my favorite local film makers are currently vibing.

If you fell asleep to this playlist, I don't think I could blame you. No blazing guitar riffs, high-octave vocals or any such musical intensity tonight. Just a whole lot of mellow indie and alternative with a few obscure tracks thrown in for good measure to help you ease into your Thursday evening.

Two weeks ago I did an all-women's voices themed show. Tonight we're bringing balance back to the universe and highlighting some of my favorite male voices in music. Definitely not a definitive list of male voices, but just a sampler based on some of my favorite smooth crooners.

Tonight's show is inspired by the song "Oh I Miss Her So" by the group Holy Hive, and is reflective of the mood I crave in the midst of the hustle and bustle of our fall membership drive. Mellow but uplifting music to help you keep your head on straight.

The theme for tonight's show is "Cool, Calm, and Collected." It's the perfect playlist to have in the background while working or relaxing, as well as a good playlist to have whenever you need a little lift to your mood. The perfect pick-me-up to your Tuesday evening.
