BANGKOK — U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday the United States and South Korea have indefinitely postponed a joint military exercise in an “act of goodwill” toward North Korea.

Some of the top military leadership of the United States is in Asia today. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has been in South Korea this week, and today he’s joined by the Defense Secretary — who’s starting a regional tour.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper are both visiting American allies in the Pacific. For Esper, it’s his first foreign trip since being confirmed as Secretary of Defense.
