An organization on Kauai is keeping a critically endangered plant from going extinct.

There are only 40 ‘ohe ‘ohe trees left in the wild, but the National Tropical Botanical Garden has multiplied the population in a matter of days.

This is part of the organization’s latest project to save the native plant.

Tessa McSwain is the group’s Marketing Director.

The World Conservation Congress of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature or IUCN starts tomorrow at the Hawai‘i Convention Center and the Neal Blaisdell Center.

President Obama can expect strong reactions from three audiences after he arrives here in Honolulu this evening...commuters, who may be upset when their drive home gets complicated by the presidential motorcade....the World Conservation Congress, which can be expected to cheer his decision to greatly expand the Papahānaumokuākea National Monument...and the Pacific Islands Conference of leaders, which is meeting this week at the East-West center.  We have more from Neal Conan in the Pacific News Minute.

Honolulu City officials are scrambling to make the final adjustments before the IUCN World Conservation Congress. Around 8,000 delegates and dignitaries are expected to attend the nine day event which kicks off on Thursday.  A potential visit from President Obama has also heightened levels of security and traffic issues.
