Honolulu is updating a pilot program to improve the collection of bulky trash items that have been piling up in neighborhoods since new rules took effect, officials said.

Starting Monday, a new pilot program for bulky trash collection takes effect for Honolulu's urban core. City officials say it's an effort to prevent illegal dumping in neighborhoods, and minimize trash on curbs and sidewalks.

City To Pick Up Bulky Trash By Appointment

Starting June 3, the city plans to switch from monthly pickups of bulky items to scheduled collection appointments in neighborhoods from Foster Village to Hawaiʻi Kai, including Waikīkī. Monthly collections will continue in other areas of Oʻahu.
