A U.S. judge on Wednesday postponed trial for 12 people accused of drug trafficking in Hawaii, over the objections of a councilman accused of leading the ring.

Kauaʻi County Council member Arthur Brun pleaded not guilty Friday to 10 felony charges -- two with a maximum punishment of life in prison -- after he was arrested with 11 others by Kauaʻi police and federal agents as part of an islandwide drug sweep.

LIHUE, Hawaii — A county council member in Hawaii has been charged with striking a police officer with his car while fleeing a traffic stop, records said.

Kauaʻi Council member Arthur Brun was released on bail following his arrest Tuesday when police said he tried to flee during a traffic stop. Council Chair Arryl Kaneshiro says the council is awaiting more information about the arrest.
