Maui artist Lily Meola's debut album, They Say, was recently released, and it's already earned her three major award nominations and a slot at a prestigious new festival, not to mention landing her as one of Rolling Stone magazine's "Artists You Need to Know" list.

Meola is a finalist for Na H?k? Hanohano Awards in the Female Vocalist of the Year, Most Promising Artist of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year categories. The awards, presented by the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts, are the regional equivalent of Grammy Awards locally. The 39th annual awards will be presented on May 28 at the Hawai'i Convention Center in Honolulu. She is also performing at the Ohana Festival in August in California on a bill that includes Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and will get time touring the mainland with Willie Nelson, being introduced to audiences far beyond her home in the Aloha State.

Maui resident Willie Nelson and his son Lukas factor on the album, too, and below is a new video for her song "Sound of Your Memory" that features fellow Maui resident Lukas Nelson, a one-time guest on HPR's afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered.

Over 150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln wrote in his notes for a lecture: “Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser — in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.” Those words -which may or may not have actually been delivered -still resonate with lawyers advocating for mediation- including Maryann Sasaki. She’s an associate at Clay Chapman, IwamuraPulice and Nervell and in an article she co-wrote for this month’s Hawaii Bar Journal makes the case for mediation.
