The lack of consistent funding coupled with high turnover in management means the Zoo will have to wait a year before it can again attempt accreditation. So meanwhile, what’s the plan? Honolulu City Councilmember Trevor Ozawa is the Chair of the Executive Matters & Legal Affairs Committee and joins us.

Intro Music: 5 Years Time by Noah and the Whale

Outro Music: At the Zoo by Simon and Garfunkel

Joyce Maltby and Friends "As Time Goes By": Joyce Maltby

Show folk form bonds that go deep, born of the shared experience of getting on stage with a shared goal -- feeling the energy from your fellow performers that takes you beyond anything you thought you were capable of. Those are the kind of friends who will be performing with Joyce Maltby in her upcoming show “As Time Goes By...” a collection of songs, poems, stories an dramatic readings that take us through life’s stages.

Intro Music: Small World by David Baker, Richie Vitale, Ralph Lalama, Philippe Aerts, Tardo Hammer

Outro Music: As TimeGoes By by Jimmy Durante

Maui County Community Organic Farmland Initiative: Bruce Douglas

(Flickr - Melissa Doroquez)

On Maui, a citizen’s initiative is looking to gather steam. At issue is whether large agriculture parcels now owned as commercial enterprises should instead be used for community food- producing benefit with small, diversified organic farms. If the initiative gets enough voter signatures, it could wind up on the November ballot. The group is proposing a law that would create a mechanism to allow Maui County to acquire the land through eminent domain. Although members of the Community Organic Farmland Initiative say they are not specifically targeting the H C & S lands soon to be out of business, that fact is an undeniable force. Joining us now is the organization's spokesperson, Bruce Douglas.

Intro Music: Body Show Theme
Outro Music: Fields of Gold by Jake Shimabukuro

2nd Annual Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival Kimee Balmilero

(Facebook - Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival)

Contact between cultures can enrich or it can destroy, and just about everything in between.
