Hawaii Farmers Brainstorm; Noir in Paradise; Addressing Anger
Aquaculture, Hemp, Pollinators and More at HFUU 2016 Convention: Vincent Mina
At last month’s IUCN World Conservation Congress, Hawaii Governor David Ige pledged to double food production by 2030. How that could happen, falls to the people who will actually attempt to do it: farmers. Over the weekend, many of them met in Hilo to talk about regenerative soil, trellis farming, tropical fruit growing, the future of hemp and medicinal cannabis. Vincent Mina is President of Hawaii Farmers Union United and he joins us now with some of what came out of the annual conference.

New Noir Detective Novel Set in Honolulu: Rodney Morales
The hard-boiled detective genre thrives on what can be seen below the surface -- and the greater the contrast between the glittery surface and the seamy underside, the better. It’s a contrast that’s readily found in Honolulu, the setting for Rodney Morales’s new novel, “For a Song” in which a news reporter turned private detective is drawn into the proverbial web of intrigue. Rodney is with us in our studio.

Civil Beat Reality Check: Medical Marijuana
Hundreds wanted one and now thanks to a public records request, we know just who wanted a piece of the medical pot action. Civil Beat reporter Chad Blair has the reality check.

Addressing Anger in a Healthy Way: Eva-Maria Coburger
Are we able to control our anger -- or does our anger control us? It’s a destructive force within us that can do us harm, and leave us feeling helpless to control it. Eva-Maria Coburger is a German Naturopath who has drawn on the inspiration of Hawaiian culture to create her “Coburger Method” to help us learn to control our anger, blame, and guilt.
