The travel alert issued by the State Department yesterday may have taken you by surprise. But perhaps it shouldn’t. The escalation of terrorist activity in travel hubs we usually associate with increased security continue to change how people operate in the world... but are US citizens changing with it? According to Fred Burton Vice President of Intelligence for Stratfor, a global intelligence and advisory firm based in Austin, Texas, it depends on where you live. We asked him for his assessment of today’s security environment.

As you may have heard, news analyst Neal Conan left his Mac nut farm on the Big Island to go to Paris, where the UN Conference on Climate Change gets underway next week. Of course, there's a lot more going on in Paris than preparations for the summit, with about 150 people still in the hospital after the attacks on November 13th. Next door, the Belgian capital of Brussels remains locked down by terror threats and today, French President Francois Hollande visits Washington to meet with President Obama to discuss the fight against ISIS. Neal Conan joined The Conversation via phone, as he does most Tuesday's, to share his thoughts.

It’s all too easy to pave over precious memories, and that’s pretty much what has happened in Lahaina, Maui, where a baseball field and a parking lot cover an island and fishpond that were once a home to Hawaiian royalty: Moku‘ula Island and Mokuhinia Pond. As the full moon rises tomorrow night, the Friends of Moku’ula invite the public to the site for an evening of music and cultural education. Karee Carlucci is an organizer of Moku’ula by Moonlight and she joined the show to tell us about it. The event takes place tomorrow evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in front of Hale Halawai in Kamehameha Iki Park at 525 Front Street. It’s free and open to the public.
