Cane Burning; Storefront Church; Fluctuating Stock Market; Pacific New Media Photography Talks
On Maui, the practice of cane burning consternation has turned to anger. A community group took it to the courts with a lawsuit filed earlier this summer and more recently, an injunction. Director of the Department of Health and Alexander & Baldwin, LLC, the parent company of Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company, are named as defendants. The premise of the legal challenge is a violation of public trust by disregarding public health according to the group Stop Cane Burning. But HC&S takes a different view and general Manager Rick Volner joined the show in our studios to talk about them.

Storefront Church: Kathy Bowers

Storefront Church, a new production of the Actors’ Group that opens next week in Honolulu, is described by the playwright as a “mortgage crisis” that brings about a spiritual crisis. Kathy Bowers is the director and she joined the program to tell us more about her production. Storefront Church runs September 4th through 20th at the Brad Powell Theatre in Iwilei.
