It’s probably fitting that Bastille Day should come ten days after our own independence day celebration because the French Revolution, like others around the world, drew inspiration from America’s successful expulsion of its colonial masters.   It’s a good day to celebrate the best ideals of that revolution - liberty, equality, and fraternity - with music, and that’s what Adela Chu and her band Espiritu Libre have planned for tonight.  She’s joined the show with a couple of her musical cohorts to give us a preview.

Look on the sign in front of public schools and you'll probably see the announcement of the first day of class. While that may be good news for most parents, for a lot of them, a new school year brings the question of how to pay for everything their children need. In Hawaii, 75,000 kids - about 40% of all students - need help paying for school lunches and basic school supplies. How do the numbers compare to last year's? Jan Harada, President and CEO of Helping Hands Hawai‘i, joined the show to provide a comparison.
