Two bills to raise the age of sale of tobacco continue to advance in the Legislature and this morning they got some help. The Institute of Medicine released a report about the public health impact should 21 become the legal age to purchase tobacco. The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii will also get some help to make the case to lawmakers next Wednesday when over 100 teens and young adults will make the rounds at the Capitol for kick butts day. Jessica Yamauchi is the Executive Director of the Coalition and she joined us in our studio this morning.

If you purchased or refinanced your home during the housing bubble's peak years of 2005 through 2008, and your home is still underwater, this next conversation is for you... HELOCs - Home equity lines of credit - on thousands of homes in Hawaii will reset starting this year. That could mean a higher monthly payment and that's especially not good news for properties with a combined loan to value ratio of all outstanding loans secured by the property of 125 percent or higher. RealtyTrac released its first-ever U.S. HELOC Resetting Report. Vice President and spokesperson, Daren Blomquist, is back with a look at what this means for Hawaii compared to other states.

You don’t have to get far from Hawaii’s urban areas before you’re in horse country, and, as we well know, the islands have a long and proud paniolo tradition.   It’s strong enough that Hawaii has its own chapter of the American Cowboys Team Roping Association… which is sponsoring a series of free events in Poipu, Kauai, starting this weekend.   Jimmy Miranda of CJM Stables in Poipu is putting them together, and he joined us this morning by phone.
