Thanksgiving Day Programming for HPR2

November 28th 2013

6:00am SPECIAL: Turkey Confidential with Lynne Rossetto Kasper.  Help is on the way for Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on this, the biggest cooking day of the year. Lynne will be available to answer listener questions throughout the live, two-hour program. Quickly becoming a Thanksgiving morning tradition, past shows have included everything from a cross-country trucker cooking his Thanksgiving dinner on the manifold to a panicked first-time cook who didn't realize a turkey needs to be thawed. Lynne handles all questions with wit, expertise and laughter.

8:00am SPECIAL: Giving Thanks  Two wise, witty women join us at the table: Julia Sweeney, celebrated writer and actor; and Anne Lamott, best-selling author. Between the music, no clichés about pilgrims and pumpkin pies. Instead, it’s a contemporary celebration of the spirit of Gratitude. And, continuing a Giving Thanks tradition, a spellbinding story from actor Charles Laughton, giving thanks for Art that connects us all to the creative spirit.

5:00pm SPECIAL: Thanksgiving with Cantus  Cantus is one of the premiere men's vocal ensembles, and with Alison Young, talk about the holiday, music, and food. This year's program will focus on the importance of heritage, including works from the Sacred Harp, Lakota Wiyanki by Herrington/Woodside, and features the premiere of Psalm of the Soil by Sarah Kirkland Snider.
