Summer Pledge Drive 2020

HPR logo

HPR takes to the air June 9-11 with its Summer Pledge Drive. 95% of HPR's $6.4 million operating budget is contributed by individuals, families, and businesses in its community, and during the fund drive, listeners are invited to contribute to the station’s growth.

The station currently counts nearly 15,000 members; more than half are Sustaining Members who donate in regular monthly installments. Sustaining Members provide a steady stream of operating revenue, which creates a stable base from which the station can plan for future growth.

For eight years in a row, HPR has earned a four-star rating (the highest possible) from Charity Navigator, which evaluates nonprofits on financial health, accountability, and transparency. HPR was named one of the top 10 public radio stations in the country by the same organization in 2018.

Hawai‘i Public Radio is a nonprofit, noncommercial radio station, providing two stations statewide (HPR-1, with news, talk, and entertainment, and HPR-2, your home for classical music). As an essential public service, the station has remained operational throughout the coronavirus pandemic, providing timely and reliable news updates from the islands and around the world, as well as an oasis of music when you need it.

Due to public health concerns, there will be no community guests on-air or volunteers to man phone banks during the pledge drive. This approach helps ensure the health and well-being of station staff as well as the community.   Because volunteer groups are not manning the phones, donors are encouraged to contribute online.

Contributions to HPR may be made online at any time at members.hawaiipublicradio.org, as well as through the free "hpr" mobile app. Fund drive phone lines are open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on June 11; the toll free number is (888) 970-8800.

Gough brings more than 15 years of marketing experience to her position at HPR. She most recently served as Director of Marketing at Hawaiian Ola, producer of Hawai‘i-made organic beverages. Prior to that, Gough spent five years at Whole Foods Market, where she oversaw marketing and community engagement for their Hawai‘i stores. She also served as one of the founding co-chairs of Generation Listen, an HPR initiative established with the mission of engaging younger listeners with the station.
