Residents have an opportunity to comment on a proposed fee increase to access Hawai?i’s national parks.

The National Park Service is proposing an increase in the “tri-park pass” from 30 dollars to 50 dollars.

The pass gives residents unlimited access to the three fee-charging parks in the state: Hawai?i Volcanoes, Haleakal? and Pu?uhonua o H?naunau National Historic Park on the Big Island.

Park officials say the proposed increase would bring the price of the passes up to par with other national parks with similar visitor services.

Jessica Ferracane is the Public Affairs Specialist with Hawai?i Volcanoes National Park.

Ferracane says the funds from the passes will go towards improvement and conservation projects at the parks.

Residents can send in their comments to the National Park Service either online or by mail until March 2nd.

Mail to: Superintendent, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
                P.O. Box 52

Visitors to any of the national parks can also fill out a comment card at any of the ranger stations.
