The O?ahu Fringe Festival is celebrating its sixth running this weekend in Honolulu.

A fringe festival is an arts festival highlighting alternative or experimental performances and exhibitions. The first was held in 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland. And over the years, the popularity of fringe festivals has grown throughout the world.

The O?ahu Fringe Festival began in 2011, with the intent of bringing artists, audiences and the community together for a weekend full of performances.

Misa Topou is the organizer of the O?ahu Fringe Festival.

He says unlike other fringe festivals that also include art exhibits, this one focuses more on the performance arts.

The 6th O?ahu Fringe Festival began Thursday and continues throughout the weekend.
