While he spends a lot of time at his house on Kauai, musician Todd Rundgren is back in Honolulu for shows Saturday and Sunday at the Blue Note Hawaii, his debut there, and first live shows in the city since playing here with Ringo Starr on Election Day 2016. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence spoke with him about the visit and some of the highlights of his long career.
Todd discussed the current tour and why they are calling it an "Unpredictable Evening". He also detailed why he's no longer in the Ringo Starr All-Starr Band. His early years were also reviewed, including how his family played a role in that, how he began in music playing the flute, and eventually gravitated to guitar, and how he formed his first group, Nazz. Another area of his life, his work as a producer of other people's music, was another chapter of the conversation, with stories about Grand Funk Railroad, The Band, Badfinger and Janis Joplin.
