Legendary alternative rock act New Order are back in the Aloha State, with a show tonight at the MACC and Friday at the Blaisdell Arena. Ahead of the dates, HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence spoke with long time member, singer/multi-instrumentalist Gillian Gilbert. New Order formed with the remaining members of Joy Division following the 1980 suicide of Ian Curtis. Gillian Gilbert joined that year. The band have many fascinating stories to tell, including the origins and history of their powerful 1983 hit Blue Monday, which was remixed in 1988 by Quincy Jones himself, has been successfully covered by 90’s act Orgy, and appeared in films, like Steven Spielberg’s 2018 Ready Player One.
