Helping Hand - December 27, 2013 full interview with Assistance Dogs of Hawaii

Helping Hand is a new local weekly feature on All Things Considered. Each Friday afternoon, local show host Dave Lawrence will put the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the handicapped, disabled and other folks in need. This week we’re learning about Assistance Dogs of Hawai`i with our guest Mo Maurer. According to their website, assistancedogshawaii.org, in 2000, Mo Maurer gave up a successful career as a CPA decided to devote herself full time to the Service Dog industry. She’s our guest today.

This organization is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides people with physical and developmental disabilities professionally trained dogs that will give them increased freedom and enhance the quality of their lives. Will and Mo Maurer are the founders of Assistance Dogs of Hawai`i, based on Maui, and started working in the Assistance Dog industry in 1995.
