Helping Hand - April 25, 2014 full interview with Access Surf

Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR1 stations statewide Fridays at 5:30, and online here in a growing Helping Hand directory. Each Friday afternoon, All Things Considered local host Dave Lawrence puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks in need. This week we’re learning about a local organization with a pioneering approach to enriching the lives of the disabled – Access Surf.

According to their website, Access Surf empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation. Today we’re honored to have two of the heroes from their organization in the studio with us, Access Surf Program Coordinator Cara Troy and the founder of Access Surf, Mark Marble.

Feel like helping out? The Access Surf annual fundraiser is at Hard Rock Cafe Waikiki!

Saturday May 17th, 2014 from 2:30 to 6:00pm with live music, heavy pupus and silent auction to help this non-profit continue to serve the disabled in our island community.

The organization will be honoring Rich Julian and Ralph Goto with the ‘Ocean of Possibilities’ award, as they say thank you to community members who've been committed to their project.

All proceeds raised will go directly to helping Access Surf continue their programs.
