Hawai‘i Youth Symphony: 50 Years of Music for Hawai‘i’s Families

  Hawai‘i Youth Symphony has been bringing music into the lives of students from every socioeconomic group in Hawai‘i for fifty years.   As part of its anniversary celebration, HYS is inviting everyone to a free Spring Concert at the NBC concert Hall this Sunday.  HPR’sNoeTanigawa reports.

This Sunday, 4pm, Hawai‘i Youth Symphony’s most advanced orchestra performs a free concert at the NBC Concert Hall.   Get your tickets at the NBC Box office.  

Find out more about Hawai‘iYouth Symphony and their programs, including the Pacific Music Institute, a summer intensive, and Summer Strings, an entry level ensemble for budding players.

Ignace “Iggy”Jang, Concertmaster of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, will perform a scintillating violin showpiece, Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy.

Acclaimed pianist, Conrad Tao, will perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with Youth Symphony 1.  He performs his composition for piano and iPad here

The orchestra will also perform Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and John Williams’ “Summon the Heroes”, scored for the 1994 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
