Flash Flood Watch Continues as Rain Soaks the Islands

National Weather Service
National Weather Service

Oh the rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for most of the state as more heavy showers are expected.

UPDATE 9/15 9:15 AM

A flash flood watch remains in effect for O?ahu, Maui and Hawai?i Counties.

The cause of the stormy weather is a combination of abundant tropical moisture from the south, and an upper level disturbance near the islands.

Robert Ballard is the Science and Operations Officer for the National Weather Service.

Ballard says forecasters are keeping an eye on the weather for Kauai and Ni?ihau, as conditions may change.

9/14 7 PM

A flash flood warning has been issued for the Big Island until 8pm.

A flash flood watch is currently in effect until Thursday for O‘ahu, and Maui County, and Hawai‘i Island until Thursday afternoon.

Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa signed an emergency proclamation following the storm after nearly 10 inches of rain fell on the island causing floods, mudslides, and flooding homes.

National Weather Service forecasts say the rain and muggy conditions should stick around at least until tomorrow.

Hurricane Orlene remains a Category 1 hurricane, but should continue to weaken into a tropical storm as it moves west across the pacific towards the Hawaiian Islands.  Forecast put the storm about 600 miles west-southwest of Baja California.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
