Herd Immunity

Dr Vivek Nerurkar is a professor and Chair of the Department of Tropical Medicine, Microbiology and Pharmacology at the University of Hawaii’s John A Burns School of Medicine.

He spent time talking with us this morning about the multi-prong approach to Covid-19  that researchers are working on. It’s everything from antibody and diagnostic tests to vaccines. We wanted to better understand the concept of “Herd Immunity,” and why it seems so elusive right now.

UH Emergency Plan

The governor granted the University of Hawaii system an exemption from the two week shutdown that officially started today. The academic year began on the 24th.

The Covid-19 Crisis is expected to impact the bottom line for the university. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa joins us this morning to talk about the call for a short term emergency plan to deal with this crisis.

Corporate Water Use

With more families indoors during the pandemic, everyday water usage has increased - causing critics of corporate water usage to ask “how can we make the most of the water we have?” According to conservationist John Grizz of IX Power Clean Water, the answer isn’t in more regulations for industry - but instead in incentivizing industry to act as better stewards of our most precious resources.
