Veteran Stand Down and Veteran Homelessness: Jun Yang
By the time this program ends, City of Honolulu officials will be hoping they'll be looking at a big crowd. The Mayor’s Office on Housing, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Department of Labor are hosting a Veteran Stand Down at Beretania Community Park. And unlike other years, if all goes well between now and December, this is expected to the year when veteran homelessness reaches functional zero. Executive Director of the Mayor's Office of Housing, Jun Yang talked with me earlier and I asked him to explain the concept of “functional zero.”

Make a Film in 52 Hours: Walt Louie
Most of us who watch movies don’t notice much about the way a film is edited, but we are always affected by it. Walt Louie is a seasoned film editor who has watched his craft evolve over the years. He’s in town to teach a series of workshops at UH, including one in how to make a film in 52 hours.

Primary Election and Presidential Debates Discussion: David Lanoue
Tonight, the red, white and blue geometric set in Cleveland will be the backdrop for the two sets of debates among GOP presidential hopefuls. The top tier will debate at 3 PM Hawaii time. Four hours earlier the B list candidates - those trailing in the polls used to rate them- will debate first and several agencies will live stream both if you want to watch in real time. Early this morning, I met with David Lanoue, Dean of College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Political Science at Hawaii Pacific University.

Kauai Shorts 10-Minute Play Festival: Romey Curtis
Sometimes it’s a good idea to take what you do and compress it: impose some kind of arbitrary limit that kicks your creative energies into high gear. That’s the effect Kaua’i’s Women in Theatre’s 10-Minute Play Festival has on the dozens of playwrights who take part. Calling on them to compress the dramatic arc, or keep the laughs coming, as the story requires. You never know what to expect, which is just what Romey Curtis of Women in Theatre likes about it. The festival is this weekend.
