Home Care with DOH Deputy Keith Ridley

As Hawaii’s population ages, our need for outside help grows. State Health officials have been working on a new licensing program to make it safer for our seniors when they bring in workers into their home to help them with daily activities. Keith Ridley is the CHIEF of the state’s health care assurance branch. He sat down with us to talk about a new program to help guard against unqualified home care agencies.

Surveys Will Help to Predict the Impacts of Deep-Sea Mining

More than a dozen countries are eyeing the ocean floor for manganese nodules and precious metals for use in the computer industry. It’s still in the exploratory phase but University of Hawaii scientists have been surveying the Pacific in advance of the deep sea mining. Craig Smith just returned from an expedition using robotics to scan the sea floor. It brought back images of giant sea creatures and a drive to do more
