Recycling is a practice that helps the environment, but it’s also a business. That business has become more complicated in recent months, especially for those of us living in Hawaii.
We’re going to be taking a closer look at several issues involving recycling this week--and tomorrow we’d like to hear from you. But today we start with a look at a major event that has changed the nature of recycling everywhere--including here in Hawaii.
This part of the story starts in China, which earlier this year stopped accepting exports of trash. The impact has been felt around the world.

Father Lost in Korea Comes Home After 68 Years
Charles McDaniel Junior was only 3 years old when his father went missing in action during the Korean War. Charles McDaniel Senior was one of two Americans identified from the remains that were recently returned to US soil from North Korea.
The younger McDaniel, who is a retired army chaplain, was on hand for a ceremony held at Honolulu’s National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific to mark National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
