Lava fountains and channelized flow erupting from the fissure 8 on K?lauea Volcano's lower East Rift Zone. K?lauea ranked as the U.S. volcano with the highest threat score. The eruptive activity in 2018 and the destruction of residential subdivisions on its flanks are clear examples of why K?lauea is a very high threat volcano.

Lava Recovery Continues on Hawaii Island

It?s been six months since lava erupted in the residential community of Leilani Estates on the Big Island. HPR Reporter Ku?uwehi Hiraishi returned to Puna to check-in on recovery efforts.

Hotel Worker Strike Update

Today marks four weeks since thousands of Hawaii hotel workers walked off the job over a labor dispute against Marriott hotels that is locked with other contract talks in other cities. Negotiators from two sides met this weekend in hopes of working to reach agreement on a new contract.
