Native Hawaiians Support TMT: PUEO Keahi Warfield
The opposition we usually hear to the Thirsty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea comes from Native Hawaiians. But one group is quick to show that this is really a matter of some but not all. A recently-formed nonprofit known by its acronym PUEO which stands for Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities Inc. filed a motion to intervene in the contested case. Later this week, a hearing in Hilo will decide which groups will be included. On the line now is the Board President of PUEO, KeahiWarfield.

Aloha International Piano Festival: Lisa Nakamichi
The world of the concert pianist is a highly competitive one, where even the youngest artists have to adapt to the demands of performing in an environment where they are judged critically at every step long the way. It’s an environment designed to foster excellence, and it does, but it does demand the kind of temperament that can withstand pressure. It’s a world that Lisa Nakamichi knows well, as a performing artist herself and as organizer of the 11th Annual Aloha International Piano Festival and Competition, which is bringing pianists from all over to Hawaii. She’s with us this morning.

A Hawaii Perspective on the Orlando Shooting: Michael Golojuch
In the aftermath of yesterday’s shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, communities around the nation have been offering their condolences and support. That includes from ours- the Hawai‘iLGBT Caucus of the Democratic Party of Hawaii called it a Hate Crime and staged a vigil last night at the Honolulu Hale. Implicit in the messages of solidarity, is also the question of how communities will respond in practice as well as principle. Michael Golojuch is the chair of the Hawai‘i state LGBT caucus. He joins us by phone now.

Kauai’s Singing Ministers Present Their Love Journey in an Evening of Cabaret: Rita Andriello

That’s what Rita Andriello and Patrick Feren have done with Love Notes Cabaret: A Musical Journey of the Heart. They are the Spiritual Directors of the Center for Spiritual Living Kauai in Kapaa, and Rita’s on the line with us now.
