Medical Marijuana and Gun Rights

For much of the past year, the Honolulu Police Department has been sending letters to medical marijuana users giving them 30 days to voluntarily give up their firearms.  That policy is now under review, but questions remain:  Are privacy rights being violated?  Are people on a medical database being placed under surveillance? What is the balance between federal authority and states' rights?
