This week, the UH College of Social Sciences released its first report to evaluate Honolulu’s Housing First initiative to address homelessness. The report covers the first eleven months of the program. Overall, the program appears to be working for the one hundred and seventy-six  people involved with it. Psychology professor Jack Barile is one of the authors of the report - he specializes in the study of what social factors create health and well-being. Jack Barile is an assistant professor at the University of Hawai‘i at M?noa in the Department of Psychology. He joins us now to look at year one and the implications for the next report.

Supporters of industrial hemp in Hawaii are celebrating. With Governor Ige’s signature yesterday, SB 2659 is now law that’s the measure creating a pilot program to cultivate industrial hemp for agricultural and academic research. . And while that’s good news, there’s still the matter of the over four hundred thousand dollars that the Governor will need to release to fund the program. And rules to cover how the program is to be run. Senator Mike Gabbard backs the program and joins us now with next steps.

Bodysurfing is casual weekend recreation for most -- but for a highly skilled few, its serious business: a difficult and challenging sport not without its risks. Tim Burnham is the director of a documentary called Dirty Old Wedge, about an especially dangerous bodysurfing spot and the lure it presents to the world’s top bodysurfers.
