The Conversation: Exploring the Need for Covid Data

Today as we work through this pandemic we are focusing on privacy rights and the public’s need to know when it comes to Covid 19 data. How do you balance transparency, and the protection of personal health information? What is reasonable? How do you know where to draw the line?

Joining us today are:

  • Brian Black, Executive Director of the Civil Beat Law Center for the Public Interest which focuses on government transparency and open records issues. He specialized in Public Law at Cornell University and worked as a deputy Corporation Counsel for the City and County of Honolulu.

  • Sylvia Law, a healthcare law expert. She’s with New York University and has been a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii Law school and Medical School.

  • and Nick Redding, Executive Director of the Hawaii Data Collaborative and member of the Hawaii Pandemic Applied Modeling Group.
