Today's program was inspired by the Hawaiian Oboe Legacy project of J. Scott Janusch. Scott has been performing with the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra for many years and wanted to leave a legacy to the people of Hawai‘i. He chose to created a project involving the making of a kauila wood oboe that will be left in the care of the non-profit Live Music Awareness to be shared with Hawai‘i. Next Monday, May 20th, at the Doris Duke Theatre, Chamber Music Hawai‘i celebrates the instrument's completion with its final concert.
On my program today, I'll be playing the Mozart Oboe Concerto, which is one of the pieces to be performed . (Jon Magnusson wrote a work for the oboe that will also be performed at the concert. I'll be playing other woodwind works for the remainder of the program. Join me, and don't miss the concert next Monday.
