Bridging the Gap~March 15th, 2019: NPR's Austin 100 (Part 2)

Tonight’s show is part 2 of a seriously deep dive into new music, taken from NPR Music’s Austin 100. A list that features up and coming acts performing at this years SXSW festival in Austin Texas. It’s been cherry picked.. but appears almost in order as it appears on their Spotify playlist.  So I ask you to turn up the volume… open your ears to discovery and please any potential cursing that may come from these songs… and the fact that I’ll be breaking in a lot to introduce these artists with bios ripped from NPR Music.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
