The Asia Pacific Dance Festival: Movement and Meaning

Taipei National University of the Arts

The founders of the Asia Pacific Dance Festival began with the idea that  peoples’ values and beliefs are embedded in their dances.  That makes dance a unique vehicle for cultural understanding and exchange.  HPR’s  Noe Tanigawa reports on this summer’s upcoming celebration of Maori, Hawaiian and Taiwanese dance.

The Asia Pacific Dance Festival offers a program of Korean dance and drumming this Sunday, July 14th, with a grand finale featuring both contemporary and traditional Maori, Taiwanese and Hawaiian dance next weekend, July 20th and 21st.   All performances are at Kennedy Theatre.   Classes are still available also.

The Asia Pacific Dance Festival, now in its second year, is a co-production of the East West Center and the University of Hawai'i Outreach College with support from the UH Manoa Dance and Theatre Department.
