Hawaiʻi has seen more than 10,000 COVID cases in the past two weeks.

Labor Day weekend may increase that number with an influx of visitors and people celebrating the long weekend.

In a video, Governor David Ige urged residents to avoid activities that can potentially spread COVID-19 over Labor Day weekend.

"The delta variant is relentless," Ige said. "It is spreading aggressively. Healthy adults and children are getting very sick. More than a quarter of COVID cases recently have been children. There are extra steps you can take during this critical time, especially during Labor Day weekend."

He says to avoid spaces with poor ventilation and crowds.

He asks that people set their own curfews and avoid activities that could lead to exposure.

Masks are required indoors and outdoors when in close contact with other people.

More information on testing and vaccination sites can be found here.
