HELCO works to get power back to communities on Hawaii Island, who have been without electricity since Thursday.

A special walk-in election will be held Friday for Big Island residents who were unable to vote in Saturday’s primary due to damage from Tropical Storm Iselle. That decision is drawing criticism from folks in Puna, who originally thought they would have 21 days to mail in an absentee ballot. As HPR’S Molly Solomon reports, many are still without water, power and other essential services. Voting in an election is the last thing on their mind.
